Task force to arrest quacks

KARACHI: A task force has been formed to crackdown on 60,000 quacks in the metropolis. Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Saturday said task force comprises city administration and health department’s officers and representatives of the Pakistan Medical Association and Commissioner Youth Team would take action in this regard. The decision was taken at a meeting to weed out the menace of quacks, sheesha, manpuri, gutka and sweetened nuts. The Commissioner said action has been repeatedly taken against quacks in the past, but they were not ready to mend their ways. He stressed the need for a strict and sustainable crackdown against quacks by the task force to protect the health of the people. He said complaints against quacks could be lodged at public health telephone numbers. The task force will take action on such complaints, he added. Siddiqui said the health department has issued instructions to all the EDOs, DHOs and THOs to move actively against fake doctors. He said monitoring committee would meet monthly to review the progress of the crackdown against the menace of quacks, gutka and manpuri. He called upon youth to make a resolve on August 14 to abstain from gutka, manpuri and other things unfit for human consumption.
