Siege of Qadri’s house unwarranted, says MQM

KARACHI: Mutahida Qaumi Movement Rabita Committee (MQM RC) grieved over the shocking reports of a clash between Pakistani Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers and the police in Lahore.Commenting on suppressing protests through the ‘state muscle’ MQM RC was of the view that it was not democratic in nature at all. In a joint statement, MQM appealed to political parties to achieve their motives through peaceful means rather than using violence as a political tool for ‘ulterior motives’. It said the right to protest was a fundamental constitutional right of every political party. The statement said the siege of Minhajul Quran secretariat as well as PAT chairperson Dr Qadri’s house since last two days has been cruel and unwarranted, whereas MQM has repeatedly demanded this illegal siege should be removed, but their demands were ignored by the government. On the contrary, the police aggression towards PAT workers promoted reactionary violence from the workers, which resulted in a lot of bloodshed, MQM said.MQM appealed to the demonstrators they should refrain from using violence and use peaceful means of protest instead. online Azad calls for defusing political tension through dialogue  KARACHI: Supreme Court Bar Associations (SCBA) former President Yaseen Azad expressing concern over ongoing tense political situation in the country called upon Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) to resolve the political controversies through dialogue.Yaseen Azad said PTI Chairman Imran Khan and PAT chief Tahirul Qadri were paving way for a martial law in the country. Political parties enjoy constitutional right to stage protest demonstrations to get their demands met but they should shun taking law into their hands, he added. If the military intervened and democratic system is overtaken, the country had to bear irreparable loss, he said. He said for the first time in the history of the country, an elected government completed its tenure and handed over the reins of power to other democratic government. He suggested democratic system should be allowed to flourish and the political parties should strengthen it. He said August 14 should be celebrated with great zeal across the country while the country has never witnessed such a situation on eve of August 14.
