KARACHI: At least three people were killed on Sunday in separate incidents of violence, while the bomb disposal squad defused a bomb hurled inside a police station in the metropolis.
According to details, two suspects, upon seeing the police personnel, opened fire to which the police counter attacked and killed one of them in New Karachi.
One person was gunned down near Aisha Manzil and another was shot dead in Manghopir area.
Two people were injured during an exchange of firing in Lyari’s Kalakot area.
Meanwhile, a four to five kilogram bomb was found inside Mominabad police station in Orangi Town.
The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was called to the location and they successfully defused the bomb. The discovery of the bomb inside the police station calls into question lack of security in the station.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Iqbal Mehmood on Sunday directed DIGs to ensure extraordinary security and traffic measures on the eve of Shab-e-Baraat.
He said at police station level, legal action should be taken against people involved in manufacturing and selling fireworks on Shab-e-Baraat.
IGP also said that extraordinary security measures at main graveyards, shrines, mosques, imambargahs and madaris should be provided.
He instructed traffic police to devise proper plan for parking areas at graveyard besides arranging alternate routes for visitors of graveyard.
IGP said that all graveyards should be cleared pertaining to security risks before the start of this holy night and also ensure presence of Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) at police station level.
