ASWJ workers among 4 killed in city as violence continues

KARACHI: Four people, including two religious party workers, were killed and two others injured in different violence incidents in the city on Sunday.Two local leaders of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat were killed when unidentified men opened fire near old Sabzi Mandi area of the city on Sunday. Police said that armed motorcyclists shot dead both the men in what appeared to be a latest incident of target killing.The police said that the deceased were identified as Qari Abdul Rahim and Noor Zaman. The bodies were moved to a local hospital for medico-legal formalities.Party workers of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) staged a protest at the University Road of the city against the killing of their local leaders. The protesters blocked the road, burnt tyres and chanted slogans against the killings.Separately, Saleem, 50, was shot dead by armed men near Mosamiyat. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for a post-mortem examination.Unidentified man, aged 25, was shot dead while resisting a robbery bid in Gulshan-e-Mayymar Industrial area. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities.Two real brothers, Imam Hussain - 18, and Jahanzaib Khan - 25, were shot and injured in Landhi. The injured were shifted to JPMC for treatment.Meanwhile, Rangers in Peerabad and Metroville areas of Karachi killed four alleged members of a banned organisation on early Sunday morning.A spokesman for the paramilitary force told media “two terrorists were killed in an encounter in Peerabad”. He said that the militants were identified as Khalid Jaan and Zeeshan. The spokesman said that arms, hand grenades and motorcycles were also recovered from the possession of the two men.He said, “The terrorists were involved in the killings of policemen in Orangi town and were planning to target law enforcement agencies”.The spokesman said, in a separate operation, the paramilitary force acting upon a tip off conducted a raid in Metroville area of Site Town. Rangers officials said that following a credible lead, Rangers personnel swooped on a hideout of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) insurgents in Metroville Town but were met with heavy resistance.A Rangers official said, “Terrorists opened fire on Rangers and were killed when the personnel returned the fire.” He said that a terrorist managed to flee, adding that all the three persons were affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).According to Rangers spokesman, magnetic improvised explosive devices (IEDs), hand grenades, short and long-range firearms and other explosives were seized after the raid.“These terrorists were involved in targeted killing in the SITE area of Karachi”, he added.
