15 fishermen missing after boat sinks near Karachi

KARACHI: Sixteen fishermen went missing when their boat sunk near Mubarak Village here on Sunday According to initial reports, the fishermen sought refuge on top of the boat as it toppled over. However, the boat and men cannot be sighted any more. The Hawks Bay Emergency Response Centre said the fishermen were aboard the boat, named Dhonda, when it sank due to the strong current. Maritime Security Agency’s Colonel Omar said that it might not be possible to rescue the men by sending boats owing to the high tide in the sea. He further added that Pakistan Navy has been asked to send helicopters to rescue them. Meanwhile, the officials of Maritime Security Agency have been dispatched to recover the fishermen. It should be noted that the Karachi Commissioner has prohibited the citizens and fishermen for going into open sea due to rough conditions.
