KARACHI: Three people, including a woman, were killed and another injured in separate incidents of violence in the city on Wednesday.
A man, Muhammed Iqbal, 37, son of Muhammed Hussain, was shot dead by unidentified armed men near Nasra Trust School in Rafah-e-Aam Society, Malir, within Al-Falah police station limits.
The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for an autopsy. The victim was killed over an old enmity, said SHO of the police station.
The mutilated body of a woman, aged 25, was found near Chamra Chowrangi in Korangi Industrial Area. It was shifted to JPMC for a post-mortem examination.
Separately, Shehzad, 25, son of Shah Nawaz, was gunned down by unidentified armed men at Nayabad area of Lyari. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.
In another incident, a 25-year-old man, Kamran, son of Farooqi, was shot and injured by unknown robbers resisting in a robbery bid in Gulistan-e-Johar. The injured was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, Extortionists attacked two traders in Karachi in two separate incidents within a span of five minutes on Wednesday wounding one trader.
Alleged extortionists reached the shop of a bronze trader situated on Karachi’s Lawrence Road in the old city area and opened fire after hurling threats on him. The trader had received an extortion slip during the month of Ramazan and had failed to pay the demanded amount. The shopkeeper sustained bullet wounds as a result of the attack. Police personnel reached the spot after the incident as a probe into the attack went underway. Around 180 shops situated in the vicinity shut down to protests against the incident and demanded security from the government to run their businesses.
In another incident a hand grenade was lobbed at the residence of a trader in North Nazimabad’s Hyderi Market area.
There was no loss of life reported in the incident. Police sources suspected that the attack was carried out threaten the trader into paying extortion money.
Moreover, Karachi police and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) raided different parts of the city and arrested 93 criminals in joint operation during the last 24 hours. In 92 raids across the city, 25 accused were arrested under Arms Act, 18 under drug peddling, 11 under robbery cases and rest for their involvement in other crimes.
The police also recovered 26 different kinds of weapons and drugs from their possession.
