SHC issues notice to CS, others on dual office

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued a notice to Sindh chief secretary, education & literacy department secretary and others to file their respective comments on a petition questioning the appointment of Abdul Wahab Abbasi as Karachi’s district education officer and director schools education at the same time. A division bench headed by Justice Muneeb Akhtar also issued a notice to provincial law officer to file his reply on the petition and adjourned the hearing of case till July 23. The petitioner, Tahir Abbas, said that Abdul Wahab Abbasi was posted as the Karachi district education officer (BS-19) through a notification issued on March 10, 2014. He said that Wahab was holding post of district education officer while he was given an additional charge of Karachi director schools education (BS-20) via notification issued on July 13. The petitioner claimed that Wahab was holding two offices at the same time, adding that he was given an additional charge of director schools education on Own Pay and Scale (OPS), which was sheer violation of the order of the Supreme Court. The apex court had deprecated the idea of OPS and directed provincial authorities to withdraw all OPS postings. He requested the court to direct Abdul Wahab Abbasi to show under what authority of law he was simultaneously holding the office of district education officer and director schools education Karachi.
