Five more fall prey to violence

KARACHI: Five people were killed and another three injured in separate incidents of violence in the city on Saturday.The mutilated body of an unidentified man, aged 26, was found near the KDA Flats in Surjani Town. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities. According to reports, Junaid, 30 years of age, was shot dead by unidentified armed men near the furniture market in Liaquatabad. The body was shifted to the ASH for a post-mortem examination. Waleed, 20 of age, was shot dead by unidentified men at a slaughter house in Lyari. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for an autopsy. Moreover, Waqar Hussain, 35 years of age, was shot and injured while resisting a robbery in Keamari. The injured was shifted to the CHK for treatment. A man, Sarzameen, 50 years of age, was shot and injured by unidentified men near five-Star Chowrangi in North Nazimabad. The injured was shifted to the ASH for medical aid. A man, said to be a cop, was killed and another two pedestrian girls were injured during firing near the Valika Hospital. They were later shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.On the other hand, the police on Saturday claimed to have killed three alleged criminals, including a member of gang war in separate encounters, while the Rangers arrested two alleged criminals in the city. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shiraz Nazir said that Rangers and the police conducted a raid in a slaughter yard within the limits of the Baghdadi Police Station. One criminal of the Lyari gang war, Waleed Dada alias Chota Jhengo was killed after an encounter and weapon was recovered from his possession. The SSP said that three gangsters, Akhter Ali, Riaz, and Kamaluddin were shot and injured by the police during an encounter within the limits the Pakistan Bazaar Police Station, Orangi Town. The injured were taken to the ASH for medical treatment where two of them succumbed to their injuries. Rangers on a tip-off, conducted a raid in Gulshan-e-Ghazi and arrested two criminals, said the Rangers spokesperson. He said that weapons were also recovered from their possession. Moreover, the police on Saturday arrested 10 accused allegedly involved in targeted killings, kidnapping for ransom, extortion, and other crimes and recovered weapons from their possession. According to reports, the police arrested eight accused, including three injured suspects of the gang war after an encounter in Orangi Town. Illegal arms and ammunition, including hand grenades were also recovered from the possession of the accused. The accused had looted Rs 4 million from a bank’s van in Orangi Town. They were also involved in kidnapping for ransom, targeted killings and extortion, the police sources said. The police also arrested a hitman involved in killings of doctors. The target killer was arrested from Zaman Town. The accused confessed that he had killed five persons. The police also arrested two robbers from the Awami Colony with weapons.
