KARACHI: At least 10 people, including two PTI and PML-F workers, were killed in separate incidents of violence across the city on Sunday.
In the first incident, two policemen were shot dead in Sector J of Madina Colony, Baldia Town.
Police said that armed men, riding motorbikes, hurled a hand grenade at the shop of Awami National Party (ANP) leader Abdul Razzak Buneri and also opened fire. Buneri remained unhurt but the two policemen – Abdul Raheem and Khan Muhammad – were killed in the attack.
Buneri is a senior leader of the ANP who had contested the provincial assembly election from the constituency of PS-91. This was fourth attack on him.
Police suspected involvement of TTP in the attack. However, no case had been registered until the filing of this report.
In another incident, a senior worker of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was shot dead by unidentified armed men in SITE area.
Police said Qari Jaffar was on his way on his rickshaw to pick his children up from a seminary when at least two armed motorcyclists intercepted him and shot him dead.
The PTI has condemned the killing of its senior party worker. A worker of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) was also shot dead in Surjani area.
Police said the deceased, identified as Nazar Shaikh, was killed by unidentified people. Separately, the prayer leader of Masjid-e-Khizrul Islam in Baldia Town was also assassinated on Sunday. Police said the “target killer” first offered prayers behind Qari Liaquat and later escaped after shooting him to death.
In Qasba Colony, meanwhile, a factory owner, Muhammad Iqbal, was shot dead while he was on his way on a car.
Unidentified people also killed a man, identified as Muneeb Ahmad, in Ashfaq Colony. The body of Muneeb was sent to hospital for autopsy.
Two other men were gunned down and another was wounded in Mawach Goth in the precincts of Mochko Police Station. Police said the deceased were identified as 65-year-old Ameer Bukhsh and 60-year-old Shafi Muhammad, and the injured as Ali Muhammad. Police added the two men were killed and the third injured when a scuffle erupted during a nikkah ceremony in the area.
Meanwhile, a man, Asif, who had sustained injuries during an attack on a police van in Pirabad locality, succumbed to the injuries.
