KARACHI: Kashmir Solidarity Day was observed across the country and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Friday in a show of support and solidarity with the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir. Seminars and rallies were held by various organisations, including political parties, to express solidarity with the Kashmiri brothers in their struggle for the right of self-determination. Parliamentary Committee in the National Assembly on Kashmir Chairman Fazalur Rehman said that Pakistan would continue supporting Kashmiris in their just and principled struggle for right to self-determination in accordance to the United Nations Security Council’s resolutions. Speaking at a reception meeting hosted in his honour by AJK Prime Minister Ch Abdul Majeed, Fazl called upon the international community to play its due role for the resolution of the lingering Kashmir dispute without further loss of time. He said Pakistan had always supported dialogue with India to ensure settlement of the long-standing disputes including the core issue of Kashmir. A rickshaw rally was held in Rawalpindi to express solidarity with the Kashmiri people. It was organized by the joint venture of Pasban Raksha Drivers Association Punjab and National Labour Federation Rawalpindi. Hundreds of rickshaw drivers holding portraits and placards inscribed with slogans took out the rally from Raja Bazaar and passed through different markets of the city to reach Liaqatbagh. In Srinagar, the main city in Indian-occupied Kashmir, hundreds of Kashmiris protesting against the Indian rule clashed with government forces shortly after Friday prayers. Displaying Pakistani flags and chanting slogans like “we want freedom,” protesters threw rocks at police and paramilitary soldiers who responded by firing tear gas, police said. No one was immediately reported injured in the clashes.
