KARACHI: Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) on Thursday claimed that the East and West Zone police have arrested eight criminals including five target killers involved in the killing of policemen and sectarian violence in the city.
Addressing a press conference at Central Police Office (CPO), AIGP said that the East and West Zone police ahve arrested five target killers Syed Hassan Abbas alias Talha, Syed Ali Raza Zaidi, Ghoas Ali, Muhammad Sajjad, and Aamir alias Nomi involved in the killing of 73 people and three street criminals Dawood Ahmed, Muhammad Faisal, and Muhammad Samir.
Thebo said that the arrested target killer Syed Hassan Abbas, resident of Shah Faisal Colony No 4, had confessed his involvement in sectarian killing of six people with his accomplices, including the killing of three people Amjad Ali, Muhammad Saleem, and Syed Shahid at Drigh Road Cantt Bazaar on April 13. He said that the arrested man had confessed to be involved in the killing three students of Madarisa Darul Khair seminary, Riaz, Hayat Ullah, and Ali Muhammad in Gulistan-e-Johar on April 9.
He said that another arrested target killer Sayed Ali Raza Zadi had confessed killing three persons, including two students of Jamia Binoria seminary Talha and Muhammad Usman near Qaid-e-Azam mausoleum.
AIGP further said that the arrested target killer Ghoas Ali was involved in the killing of nine persons in the city. He said that the accused had confessed his involvement in the target killing of policemen within the limits of Ibrahim Haidery Police Station.
He said that the accused confessed that he along with his accomplice opened fire on a police mobile of Ibrahim Haidery police and killed four policemen, SI Farhan, PC Muhammad Shafi, PC Akhtar Ali, and PC Didar Ali.
The police chief said that the target killer Muhammad Sajjad was involved in killing 15 people and he had confessed his involvement in sectarian killings along with his accomplices. He said that further investigation was under way. Thebo said that the arrested target killer Aamir alias Nomi was involved in killing 39 people in different areas of the city. “Nomi was affiliated with a banned organisation and was involved in sectarian killings,” he added.
On the other hand, the East and West Zone police in the city also arrested three bandits. AIGP said that the arrested accused Dawood and Faisal were involved in robberies in different areas of the city. They confessed their involvement in street crimes and house robberies. He said that they had looted gold jewelry, mobile phones and cash worth Rs 2 million during a robbery at a house in Gulistan-e-Johar on July 28. He said that the looted mobile phones were also recovered from their possession.
AIGP said that the street criminal, Sumeer had confessed to looting Rs 500,000 and mobile phones from a pizza shop in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. He said that the accused had snatched a repeater-gun and opened fire on the security guard of a pizza shop in which the security guard Sher Khan was injured.
