KARACHI: One person died and seven other people were injured including four police personnel in incidents of violence on Wednesday.
An unidentified man died in a police encounter in Gulshan-e-Maymaar area. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for an autopsy.
Separately, four police personnel were injured when unidentified armed men hurled a hand-grenade at a police check post under the Nursery Bridge on Wednesday. They were identified as Constable Saleem (42), Constable Mahiwal (43), Constable Maqsood (40), and Nasir (35). All injured were rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for treatment where they were said to be in stable condition. According to police sources, unidentified assailants attacked the Madadgar 15 check post on Shahrah-e-Faisal with a hand grenade and fled. As a result of the explosion, four policemen were injured while the check post and motorbikes parked outside were badly damaged in the attack.
Security personnel reached the site and cordoned off the area while investigation was launched into the incident.
“Two attackers riding on a motorbike threw explosives near the post and fled,” Inspector Hummayun, incharge of the check post said. He said that police contingent leave check posts around 9:15am that is why no major loss occurred.
In another firing incident, two brothers were injured near the National Bank Malir 15 area. According to rescue sources, Khalid (40) and Talha (26) were injured when unidentified armed men fired bullets on them. They were brought to JPMC for treatment.
Meanwhile, Akbar Aziz (51) was injured when unidentified armed men fired bullets at him near Sachal Goth. He was shifted to JPMC for treatment.
