KARACHI: Gunmen killed at least six people including a lawyer and a school principal in different parts of Karachi on Saturday, police said.
According to details, two people including a lawyer riding in a car were gunned down when unidentified shooters on a motorbike showered bullets on them in Orangi Town area.
Police in its initial report said incident occurred near Islam Chowrangi in Orangi, they were ambushed by armed men and received multiple bullet injuries. They were immediately rushed to the nearby hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. The victims were identified as Hammad Idrees advocate and Noman Shah.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabitta Committee member Saifyar Khan said deceased Noman was party worker and Hammad Idrees was party’s sympathiser.
In another incident, a person was gunned down near Anda Mor in North Karachi besides two more people were killed in firing near Metroville SITE graveyard. They were later identified as a school principal and his son. In the ensuing encounter, an alleged extortionist was also killed. Police claimed it arrested 15 suspects, including six criminals in raids at Badia Town and Orangi Town. Police claimed dozens of suspects were also arrested by law enforcement agencies from different areas of Karachi.
According to SSP West Irfan Baloch ammunition, drugs and bullets were recovered from their possession. One of the criminals had fired upon a police mobile at Ittehad Town few days ago, police said.Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) personnel nabbed two extortionist after receiving information of criminals, involved in ransom cases, present in the area. However, their two accomplices managed to flee. CPLC Chief Ahmad Chinoy said the extortionists had demanded Rs 1 million from a person living in Gizri area. A watchman of the house was also involved in the crime, it was suspected.
