Thalassaemia Prevention Centre soon at JMU

KARACHI: Approval of Thalassaemia Prevention Bill for mandatory Thalassaemia test by Sindh Assembly is a way forward, and the disorder can be eradicated via a pragmatic approach, for which Omair Sana Foundation (OSF) is ready to give every possible support. Renowned haematologist and general secretary of the OSF Dr Saqib Hussain Ansari said in a seminar on Thalassaemia Awareness at Jinnah Medical University (JMU) organised. Thalassaemia screening and blood donation was a part of this seminar organised by the OSF. VC JMU Dr Tariq Rafi, and Director Professional Development Dr Irfan Ashraf also addressed the seminar. Hundreds of medical students participated in thalassaemia screening camp and donated blood generously for children suffering from Thalassaemia. Dr Rahat Hussain, Obaid Hashmi, Dr Iqra, Dr Qamar Jabbar, Dr Naveed and others were also present. Dr Ansari said that OSF is making efforts for thalassaemia eradication from the society and Thalassaemia Prevention Bill was a fruit of this struggle. Dr Tariq said a Thalassaemia Prevention Centre would be established at the JMU.
