Major breakdown disrupts electric supply in Karachi

KARACHI: Long hours and unannounced disruption of power supply in Karachi disturbed the normal life of the citizens. Despite Karachi Electric (KE) claims of providing uninterrupted supply to the city during past week starting from Chand Raat, all went false. According to KE spokesman, the shutdown was caused due to rain and winds in the city besides tripping of 41 feeders and five grid stations and breaking electricity cables at several places in the city. He dispelled the rumours KE had resumed electricity load shedding in the city and said any electricity shutdown was due to technical fault.  Shah Faisal Colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Federal B Area, Jail Chowrangi, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Malir, Korangi, Sachal Goth, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and several other localities suffered power outages. It was the third major shutdown in the city during a week and second major during Eid holidays. On July 25 entire city was plunged into darkness for at least 12 hours due to a technical fault at Jamshoro National Grid Line.  The second breakdown occurred on August 1 when half of the city faced an electricity breakdown for at least three hours.  The spokesman said the KE staff has initiated ground work to remove faults and soon the electricity would be restored in the city.
