KARACHI: Incharge Counter Terrorism and Financial Crime Investigation Unit, Crime Investigation Department (CID), Sindh police Raja Umar Khatab on Friday claimed to have arrested six kidnappers.
Addressing a press conference at his office, he said that on a tip-off, they conducted a targeted raid at Mawach Goth in Baldia Town, and arrested six members of a kidnappers group Iqbal alias Ali Raza alias DJ, Muhammad Imran alias Mani, Rashid Ali alias Kashif alias Munna, Usama Zia, Hameer alias Saleem alias Choota Munna and Zulfiqar Ali alias Baiya.
Khatab said that arrested criminal Iqbal alias DJ was the leader of the gang who remained behind the bars several times. He said that the arrested criminals had confessed to their involvement in over 50 activities of kidnapping for ransom and extortions from different areas of the city including North Karachi, Bafarzone, SITE area, and Lyari.
The incharge CID said that they confessed to the kidnapping of a trader from Ramsawani area in 2009 and released him after collecting Rs 350,000 ransom. They had kidnapped another trader Sohail from Tariq Road and collected Rs 10 million for his release.
He said that arrested criminals also confessed that six month ago they had kidnapped a man Bashir from Liaquatabad near Sindhi Hotel and demanded Rs 50 million from abductees family. They released him after receiving Rs 18 million ransom.
Three month ago they had kidnapped a man Shahzad and a butcher from New Karachi area, kept them in Surjani Town and released them after receiving ransom money, said Khattab.
He said that they had kidnapped a factory owner and released him at Nagan Chowrangi in North Karachi after receiving Rs 20 million ransom from his family.
Further investigation was underway and he has been collecting their previous criminal recovered from different police stations in the city, said Raja Umar Khatab.
