Attack on media, marchers: Mourning day observed in city


KARACHI: On the call of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), a mourning day was observed here on Sunday against police torture on media men and political protesters in Islamabad.The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders and workers staged sit-ins on Shahrah-e-Faisal at Nursery and Do Talwar in Clifton. They shouted slogans against Islamabad police and the government. The charged workers demanded immediate removal of Nawaz Sharif from premier post.The workers of Majlis-e-Wahadat-e-Muslimeen, Sunni Ettehad Council and Pakistan Awami Tehreek staged also sit-ins at Numaish Chowrangi and condemned the police action on journalists and protesters of Independence and Revolution Marches in Islamabad.The traffic on the roads remained low. Some private educational institutes were also closed for security concerns. Angry people burnt tyres on some roads of the city to show anger against police attacks and shelling in the federal capital.Petrol pumps in some areas of the city were also closed. Tense situation prevailed in the city. The journalists in some cities and towns of Sindh also staged protests against the police action in Islamabad. The protests were held in Karachi, Naundero, Thatta, Tandojam and other cities.
