Karachiites visit five-day flower show

KARACHI: A large number of Karachiites visited 63rd five-day Pakistan Flower Show on second day Friday. The show is organised by Horticultural Society of Pakistan (HSP) in collaboration with Defence Housing Authority and Cantonment Board Clifton at DHA Seaview Public Park.
Schools, colleges, universities, private organisations, flower lovers and many others are participating in the annual flower show while hundreds of people visit every day to witness the natural beauty show.
The five-day flower event, which was inaugurated on Thursday, will conclude on Sunday.
HSP President Faheem Siddiqui in his inauguration speech outlined the activities of his organisation in promoting horticultural awareness in society. He said that HSP was actively engaged in beautifying the environment of the metropolis.
Veteran Chairman of HSP, Lt Gen (Retd) Jahanzeb Arbab termed love of flowers as the essence of life. He said flowers reflected natural beauty and a such natural spots like gardens, parks and open grounds must be beautified as they provided aesthetic delight to the people and had a soothing effect on their nerves.
In the categories of large, medium and small parks the first prizes went to the DA Zamzama Park, CBC Hilal Park and CBC Rahat Park., DHA Gizri Hilltop got the first prize in beautification of spots while Getz Pharma Roundabout stood second.
The Flag Staff House got the first prize in official bungalows in the large gardens category while the Station Commander’s House won the official bungalow gardens on a small scale. The Sindh Club won the club gardens (large) competition while the Karachi Boat Club won the small garden category. DHA Tooba Masjid got the first prize in mosque garden category.
