SHC seeks record of official vehicles from Sindh govt

KARACHI: Sindh High Court SHC has directed provincial authorities to submit a comprehensive report underlining the full particulars of every vehicle in official use throughout the province and to whom these vehicles were issued. The petitioners Naeem, Sadiq Nazim F Haji and other civil rights campaigners have approached the Court seeking its directives to authorities concerned for action against vehicle bearing fancy, fake and green number-plates that appeared to be official. The petitioners submitted a large number of unregistered private vehicles and official vehicles carrying illegal number-plates including applied for registration AFR, fake, fancy, green and foreign were roaming around the city due to dereliction of the duty by traffic police. The vehicles with illegal number-plates were highly prone to unlawful use by the criminals and have messed up law and order of the city. They said Citizen Trust against Crime CTAC conducted a survey revealed 4,000 to 6,.000 official vehicles in field were not registered with the Excise and Taxation E&T department. There were also a lot of discrepancies in record of private vehicles registered with E&T department, they added. Citing Chief Secretary Sindh, Secretary Excise and Taxation, Secretary Home Department and IG Sindh they requested Court to direct authorities to maintain the complete record of all vehicles in official use. The Court was also prayed to order action against under-registered vehicles and vehicles bearing fake number-plates. The Court after hearing preliminary arguments issued notice to respondents to submit comments on petition byJune 30. It sought comprehensive report regarding registration of vehicles in official use throughout the province and to whom these vehicles were issued.
