Taseer — a self-made genius businessman

LAHORE: A few in Pakistan could see the horizon as a successful businessman as well as a star politician, and late Salmaan Taseer was on the top of such a list. He emerged not only a very self-made, fortunate and flourishing businessman but also a genius and megastar politician. His caliber as a politician was so high and unmatchable that the space created in the Pakistan People Party after his martyr could never be filled. He was such a great orator and visionary man.
Today, the day of his 70th birth anniversary, is an inspiration for young entrepreneurs and well as those aspiring to see themselves as most promising politicians.
After doing his CA, he started working with accountancy and management consultancy institutions. Taseer was so magical that he was able to set up many chartered accountancy and management consultancy firms early in the very beginning of his career. Taseer as successfully set up two chartered accountancy and management consultancy firms KPMG, United Arab Emirates and Taseer Hadi Khalid and Co, Pakistan.
Taseer had vast experience of specialization in merger and acquisitions, flotation, investment banking and stock market analysis and also delivered presentations on various financial issues. He has also been an author of a number of articles on Investment and Financial subjects.
As one of his maga project in 1995, he established the First Capital Securities Corporation (FCSC), a full service brokerage house with equity participation by Smith Barney, Inc., USA, and HG Asia Hong Kong.
In the year 1995, he established Pace Shopping Mall, a series of shopping mall complexes in Pakistan. Pace has five branches in Lahore, one in Gujrat and other one Gujranwala. Pace woodlands is another project near Lahore airport while Pace Circle and Hayat Regency are the other projects, mentioned a few.
In Pakistan Taseer founded the Worldcall group with a payphone network in 1996. The group was very innovative as it also laid down cable network in the country. Later, a majority stake in Worldcall was acquired in 2008 by Omantel, the Sultanate of Oman’s incumbent operator.
Taseer knowing the importance of media in a country like Pakistan launched Engligh newspaper daily times on April 9, 2002. Later he launched Sunday Magazine, Business Plus; and the first children’s channel Wikkid Plus and Urdu newspaper Aajkal and cooking channel Zaiqa TV. All these media organization have been established under Media Times group.
He also served as as a member of the Board of Export Promotion Bureau of Pakistan and on the board of Universal Service Fund Company Limited.
He used to help such companies in setting their business up. He become a partner with Smith Barney and established a FCSC (First Capital Securities Corporation) whose task was to provide all the possible.
