LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday sought report from the district and sessions judge, Multan of an incident regarding molestation of a 15-year-old girl by a police constable, as reported by the media.
The LHC directed the judge to look into the matter and submit a detailed report within a week regarding steps taken by the local police.
According to report, a resident of Shujabad, father of ill-fated girl, told media that his daughter worked at a brick kiln. One day, she was abducted and molested by a Constable Asif Sanwal of Rajaram police along with his unidentified accomplice.
The accused (persons) left her in the fields and ran away. Some passers-by found
her and shifted to a rural health centre in Kotli Najabat.
He further said that an initial medical examination report showed that his daughter was raped.
The family and relatives of the victim hold a protest demonstration in Multan and demanded justice. The victim’s mother said she and her family had been receiving death threats.
They have also been threatened with sacking from their jobs at the brick kiln if they go ahead with the case. She said if the provincial government guaranteed their security she would name the policemen who had been threatening her family.
The SHO Rajaram police, Zulfiqar Gujjar said that a case has been registered against Constable Asif Sanwal and his companion. The victim had identified Sanwal as one of the two men who molested her.
The accused constable had been granted an interim bail and police were looking for the other suspect. SHO further said that the DNA samples of the victim and the suspect had been sent to a laboratory in Lahore and a detailed report would be available soon.
