LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistanis living abroad are playing an important role in the strengthening of national economy and their interests will be protected at all costs. While noting that overseas Pakistanis are actively working in medicine, engineering, science and technology, banking and all other sectors of life, he said Pakistan Muslim League-N government is taking all-out measures for the solution of their problems, and to this end autonomous Overseas Pakistanis Commission has been set up in Punjab which is playing an active role. The Overseas Pakistanis Commission is a revolutionary step of the Punjab government and is making commendable efforts for addressing the complaints of overseas Pakistanis, the chief minister said. The Punjab government, he stated, has given constitutional status to the commission and it is being extended all possible support and he personally reviews its performance on regular basis. Chief Minister Shahbaz was talking to a delegation of overseas Pakistanis in London. Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti was also present on the occasion. Talking to the delegation, the chief minister said the government is fully aware of the problems of Pakistanis living in other countries and Overseas Pakistanis Commission has been established to resolve their problems on priority basis. Under the commission, committees have been formed at district level and they are resolving the problems of overseas Pakistanis at the local level. Shahbaz said that no one will be allowed to occupy the properties of those who are earning foreign exchange for the country. “Solution of their problems is the responsibility of the government, which will be discharged at any cost,” he said, adding that Overseas Pakistanis Commission has been set up to save overseas Pakistanis from paying frequent visits to various offices for the solution of their problems. “It is a constitutional institution which is fully autonomous,” the chief minister said. Overseas Pakistanis can also register their complaints online and immediate action is taken on their complaints, Shahbaz Sharif further said, adding that Pakistanis living abroad are playing a key role in the strengthening of national economy and their services to the nation will always be remembered. He said that overseas Pakistanis improving the image of Pakistan in foreign countries through their hard work deserve all-out respect and their interests will be safeguarded and no one will be allowed to grab their properties. He said that Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab has been established to redress the grievances of Pakistani engineers, doctors, labourers and others working in different sectors. Shahbaz said all-out measures will be taken to ensure respect to overseas Pakistanis and protection of their hard-earned money. He said that through the Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab the foundation of a new system has been laid which will ensure justice to overseas Pakistanis and protect their rights. The members of the delegation paid tributes to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and said that he has taken practical steps to resolve the problems of overseas Pakistanis. They said that establishment of Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab is a historic and commendable step of the Punjab government. The commission is playing an important role in resolving the problems of Pakistanis living away from their country, they added. Separately, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the attack on aviation radar system at Jiwani Airport, Gwadar and expressed deep sense of sorrow and grief over the death of an engineer in it. He said the whole nation is standing side by side with the armed forces and law enforcing agencies in the war on terror.
