LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the goal of development can only be achieved through implementing the merit policy and ensuring a corruption-free system, and that solid measures have been taken for eliminating corruption in the province.
He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of assembly members, party office-bearers and workers belonging to various districts at Raiwind on Saturday. Shahbaz Sharif said that transparency and merit had always been the hallmarks of the PML-N in government affairs and policies.
He said that the corrupt system and corruption are big hurdles in the development of the country and development targets cannot be achieved without rooting out corruption. He said that every person has to play his role for purging the society of corruption.
Shahbaz said that economy of Punjab had been put on the road to self-reliance by improving financial discipline, observing austerity and curtailing non-developmental expenditures. He said that all-out resources were being spent on the provision of basic facilities, development and prosperity of the people in a transparent manner.
He said that mega projects had been completed in education, health, infrastructure and social development sectors in the province through which people are benefiting.
The chief minister said that various programmes for providing relief to the poor families were continuing successfully. He said that good governance had been promoted for providing best services to the people, resolving their problems and grievances. He expressed the hope that Pakistan Muslim League-N government would come up to the expectations of the people and honour all promises made with them.
He said that all development projects in Punjab had been completed in a transparent manner. Shahbaz Sharif said that transparent utilisation of every penny of resources had been ensured by considering it a national trust. He said that Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF), Daanish School, infrastructure projects and metro bus service are unprecedented projects of transparency, quality and public service. He said that land record computerization project is also an important step towards elimination of corruption and this project would be completed this year due to which facilities would be provided to the people for getting mutation and ownership deeds of their properties and they will get rid of exploitative culture. The chief minister said such reforms and steps have been taken in education sector that no talented student will remain deprived of higher and quality education due to financial constraints. He said that educational fund set up on permanent basis in Punjab is spent only and only for promotion of education on merit basis, setting aside political considerations. He said that not only Punjab but also talented students of other provinces, including Azad Kashmir, were benefiting from this educational fund. He said that besides promotion of education, process of national solidarity was also being strengthened through the PEEF set up by the Punjab government. He said that a comprehensive programme is being implemented for training of teachers, provision of missing facilities and ensuring attendance of students and teachers in schools under a coordinated programme. He said that billions of rupees are being spent on the provision of educational facilities in schools. He said that boundary wall, provision of water, electricity and other facilities would be completed in all girls’ schools of Punjab and all boys’ schools of south Punjab during current financial year. The chief minister asked elected representatives to utilize all their energies for resolving problems of the people and timely completion of ongoing development schemes in their respective areas.
The assembly members, party office-bearers and workers while paying rich tributes to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif over excellent programmes of public service said that the CM had proved himself as a Khadim-e-Punjab in the real sense by serving the people of the province round the clock. They said that people pray for the CM on his revolutionary programmes like the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund, Daanish School, metro bus and provision of free medicines in the hospitals.
