LAHORE: With the increasing number of vehicles, the traffic mess has become daily routine chocking thoroughfares especially in congested areas of the provincial capital.
A university professor Abeer Naqvi told APP that it had become a routine matter to observe worst traffic mess due to increasing number of vehicles on busy and narrow roads in the city.
He said that lack of proper transportation system, violation of traffic rules, encroachments on roads, negligence of traffic wardens, using mobile phones while driving, illegal, wrong parking and lack of awareness among people about traffic rules were the reasons of traffic mess.
A citizen Asif Ali said that traffic police or district administration did nothing to improve traffic system in the city as traffic mess on roads was common during the peak hours.
He said that traffic wardens failed to regulate traffic due to which gridlock of vehicles had become a routine matter on The Mall, Jail Road, Wahdat Road, Canal Road, Thokar Niaz Baig, Cooper Road, Macleod Road and others.
A group of students said that, traffic wardens lose their temper and their attitude towards motorists was very rude and issue challan ticket just to show their efficiency.
They said that traffic wardens should behave politely with the people as it was a better way to educate the people, adding that traffic rules should be implemented strictly and
driving licenses should be cancelled of those who violate traffic rules.
SP Traffic Headquarters Chaudhry Azhar Gujjar told that traffic police had taken effective measures to ensure smooth flow of traffic on roads adding that they had got registered cases against encroachers during a crackdown at various parts of the city.
The CTP has embarked upon a comprehensive traffic plan with the cooperation of other departments to ensure traffic flow on roads during peak hours besides taking strict action against traffic rules violators.
