LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that energy projects are being speedily implemented for coping with the problem of shortage of electricity.CM Shahbaz said that a strategy has been evolved under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for the completion of power projects on a war footing. He said that all-out measures are being taken for overcoming the shortage of power.He made these remarks while talking to senior officials of a Chinese energy company on Friday. Matters relating to establishing energy projects, especially gas-based powerhouses, were discussed in the meeting. The Chinese delegation assured of all-out cooperation in the energy sector.The Punjab chief minister said that special incentives are being given to investors for projects in the energy sector and besides traditional methods, efforts are also being made for generation of electricity from alternate sources. He added that work is also being carried out on the projects of energy generation through coal, gas, hydel, solar, biogas, biomass, wind and other sources.He further said that planning has been made for the production of 3,600MW electricity through gas and the Punjab government will set up 1,200MW gas-based energy projects in Bhikhi, Sheikhupura, with its own resources. He said that the federal government would establish 2,400MW gas-based powerhouses in the province. CM Shahbaz said that work is being carried out speedily on 1,320MW coal power plant in Sahiwal with the cooperation of China and this project will start production by the end of 2017. Similarly, he said, the Punjab government has completed within a record period the 100MW Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park Bahawalpur project with its own resources and its production has been added to the national grid. He said that the work is being carried out on another 900MW solar power plant. He further said that sincere efforts are being made under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for resolving the problem of electricity shortage and all possible resources are being utilised for this purpose. He said that the present government has taken unprecedented measures for the completion of energy projects. The chief minister said that China is extending all-out cooperation for resolving energy crisis in Pakistan. Work is being carried out round the clock on the power projects being executed with Chinese cooperation. He said that the cooperation being extended by China in the development of various sectors including energy in Pakistan is commendable. He said that energy crisis will be overcome with the cooperation of sincere friends like China and darkness will be removed from the country. He said that a number of power projects will be producing electricity by 2017 with the cooperation of China and about 5000MW electricity will be available. Senior officials of the Chinese company associated with energy sector while speaking on the occasion assured that they will extend all-out cooperation to the government in the energy sector.Punjab Power Development Company Chairman Arif Saeed, Additional Chief Secretary Energy, Secretary Energy, Secretary Agriculture, LDA Director General and Chief Executive Officer of Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park were also present on the occasion.Meanwhile, CM Shahbaz has strongly condemned the firing by Indian forces on Sialkot Working Boundary and expressed deep sense of sorrow and grief over the loss of precious human lives. He also sympathised with the bereaved families. He directed the concerned authorities to provide best treatment facilities to the injured.Moreover, the chief minister has taken notice of a child’s molestation and taking of the pictures in Dhoke Thathyal, Rawalpindi, and sought a report from RPO Rawalpindi. He directed the concerned authorities to arrest the absconding accused persons as soon as possible and take stern legal action against them. He said that justice would be provided to the affected family at any cost.
