Nation eagerly awaits Chinese president’s visit next month: Shahbaz

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Chinese President Xi Jinping is visiting Pakistan in the middle of September and that his visit will be of extraordinary importance while the Pakistani nation is ready to welcome the Chinese President. 
According to a handout, the chief minister expressed these views while talking to PTV after the third meeting of Pakistan-China Joint Coordination Committee in Beijing on Wednesday. 
The chief minister said that the Chinese president during his visit to Pakistan would inspect ongoing power and infrastructure projects being executed in the country with the cooperation of China and would also lay foundation stone of new projects. He said that irrespective of considerations of the ruling party and of the opposition, the whole of Pakistan was ready to welcome the Chinese president. 
To a question, the chief minister said that protest sit-ins have caused a huge loss to development projects and that Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Project was also facing delays. 
Earlier, addressing the third meeting of Pakistan-China Joint Coordination Committees, Chief Minister Shahbaz said that work was being carried out expeditiously on the proposed orange line metro train project in the city of Lahore and contractors for the project would soon be selected. 
Addressing the meeting, Federal Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that construction of Khunjrab-Gwadar Motorway would result in wide-ranging economic cooperation opportunities in the region. He said that a new history of Pakistan-China friendship was being written under the leadership of Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif. 
Iqbal also informed the meeting about progress on economic corridor project. 
Meanwhile, during a meeting with Chinese authorities and heads of investment companies in Beijing, Chief Minister Shahbaz said that massive investment by China in Pakistan reflected its full confidence in the leadership of Pakistan. 
He said that China has proved to be a true friend of Pakistan by giving it the biggest investment package in Pakistan’s history. He said that Chinese investors and various companies were investing in various sectors in Pakistan. 
He commended the cooperation of China in different sectors in Pakistan and said that the project of economic corridor was of vital importance as it would not only bring about economic stability in the country but would also increase economic and industrial activities in the region that would help control poverty and unemployment. He said that in view of importance of economic corridor project, every effort was being made to maintain the required speed of execution. He said that a highly conducive atmosphere has been provided to Chinese investors in Pakistan, especially in Punjab Province. He said that China has expressed its willingness for further investment in energy, infrastructure and health projects in Pakistan.  
CM takes notice of girl’s rape: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of rape of a girl in a village near Shahkot and sought a report from the Faisalabad regional police officer (RPO). According to a handout, the chief minister directed the RPO to take immediate legal action against the culprits and provide justice to the victim and her family.
