LAHORE: An annual crafts show opened at the Nairang Art Gallery on Friday. By hosting this crafts show every year, Nairang tries to promote and celebrate local culture and traditions. Crafts are collected from all over Punjab, including some unique hanging lights, brass work, jewellery, woodcraft, rugs, tiles, print, etc. Other craft items on display include paintings, furniture items, ceramics, rugs, lamps as well as fibreglass and plaster of Paris art works.
It showcases indigenous crafts, representing both old and new traditions in various areas of the country.
By holding this crafts show annually, Nairang aims at providing a platform to craftsmen who have the potential to produce world class art works but are not given due credit and are totally ignored due to a lack of a proper platform.
Some of the eye-catching works at this year’s show included beautiful hand-painted wooden pieces by Ghazi Marjan, brass and copper works by Umer Hayat Butt, truck art work by Durray Sameen, brass lights by Wilson and individual furniture pieces by various talented carpenters.
The exhibition was hosted by Nayyar Ali Dada and was inaugurated by Syeda Abida Hussain. It will continue until February 7.
