Chehlum of Imam Hussain (RA) passes peacefully

LAHORE: Amid strict security measures in view of the ongoing spate of lawlessness and sectarianism, processions were taken out and congregations held peacefully to mark the 40th day to the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and other martyrs of Karbala on Tuesday with religious zeal, reverence and solemnity.
Highlighting the message of martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and to commemorate the Karbala incident, majalis and mourning gatherings were held at various Imambarghas in the city. The central Zuljinnah procession was taken out from Mubarak Haveli inside the Mochi gate in the morning which culminated at Karbala Gameshah in the evening after passing through its traditional route.
Over 3,000 policemen were deputed alongside the religious gatherings and processions, said law enforcement agencies informed. In an operation by the law enforcers, a suspect was detained near the main procession by the police but his identity could not be ascertained till filing of this report.
Strong vigilance of the processions was also done through CCTV cameras linked to the central control room at district coordination officer (DCO) office that were installed along the route of the main Chehlum procession and majalis venues in the city. A ban on pillion riding was also enforced during the Chehlum by Punjab government to counter any untoward incident; however, women, children, and elderly were exempted from the ban.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had ordered suspension of cellular services from 8am to 11pm across the metropolis to avert possible subversion at religious gatherings.
