LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that March 23 is very important with regard to Pakistan’s Independence Movement as on this day, the Muslims of the Subcontinent decided their destiny under the flag of Muslim League.
In his message on Pakistan Day, Shahbaz said that the resolution adopted in the historic public meeting at Minto Park, Lahore was the practical shape of the idea of Poet of the East Allama Muhammad Iqbal. “After this resolution, the Muslims under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah achieved their separate homeland within a few years. Today is the day to pay homage to the heroes of Independence Movement who achieved a separate motherland by sacrificing their lives.”
Shahbaz said that although we achieved freedom from the British, we could not benefit from its fruits. He said that the journey of construction of Pakistan is still incomplete and we, as a nation, would have to utilise all our energies for its completion.
He said the sacrifices rendered by our forefathers for establishment of Pakistan demanded that we fully achieve the objectives of freedom.
The chief minister said that at present, the country is facing a number of challenges. He said that we are facing problems like terrorism, extremism, energy crisis, corruption and ruination of national institutions. However, present government is making serious and sincere efforts for resolving these problems. He said that due to unjust distribution of resources, Pakistan has divided into two segments. On this day, we will have to question ourselves whether our forefathers struggled and hundreds of thousands of people sacrificed their lives for such a country, he added. The chief minister said it is quite clear that the fruits of freedom cannot be fully achieved without removing the difference between the poor and the rich in the country. He said that time of hollow slogans and lip service has passed. That is why, PML-N government believes in practical steps and is marching towards development and prosperity of the country and the nation. He said that establishment of Danish Schools, Metro Bus Service, Aashiyana Housing Scheme, giving proprietary rights to slum dwellers, launching of Khidmat Card Project, Health Insurance and just distribution of resources are such steps through which efforts have been made to reduce the increasing gulf between the rich and the poor in the society.
He said these are initial steps. He said that journey has been started for achieving the goal of progress and prosperity but still destiny is far off, for which we have to march forward jointly. Shahbaz Sharif said that darkness, lawlessness, poverty and economic disparity were not our fate. He reiterated that the country would be put on the road to progress and prosperity with the cooperation of the people.
