PAT workers’ arrest unveils democratic dictatorship: Elahi

*PML-Q leader says intention of Sharifs not good, PAT leaders have been nabbed fraudulently

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader and former deputy prime minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi held a meeting with Dr Tahirul Qadri’s son at his residence and said that arrests and raids prior to the arrival of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri had exposed the dictatorial mindset of the democratic government.
After meeting with Hassan Mohyuddin Qadri at his residence at Model Town adjacent to the Minhaj ul Quran Secretariat on Sunday, Elahi, while talking to media persons, said, “Despite full guarantee of PAT leadership of remaining peaceful, these arrests are open violation of fundamental human rights and democracy.”
The PML-Q leader said by these illegal tactics and unconstitutional arrests and raids against PAT, Dr Tahirul Qadir’s movement would gain further strength whereas Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif would only increase their sins and lawlessness with this act.
He said after three days talks a dozen leaders of PAT Rawalpindi and Islamabad were nabbed fraudulently by being invited for negotiations with the RPO and the Commissioner. “This also establishes that intention of the rulers is not good. But how long are they going to make these arrests and detentions? They cannot block the way of the movement started for the welfare and well-being of the people rather, it will gain strength with every passing day,” he added.
Elahi further said that sabotage was being committed by stopping the leaders and workers in the name of security. “We have full faith in Almighty Allah for our security and prayers of the nation are enough,” he continued. Elahi said democracy is the name of courage, tolerance and living together, but intention of both Sharifs was well-known now and they would themselves be committing wrong.
Pointing towards the Sharifs, he said, peaceful workers were martyred in Model Town Lahore through straight firing and yet they had not learnt the lesson even after so much bloodshed. “They should better have sense because they would themselves be responsible for the consequences,” he added.
He said, “By harassing and arresting the workers what will they do later on as this is not a matter of just one day? This process is not going to stop now. As a democratic government what justification do they have of such unlawful acts? They are repeating their own blunders and are bent upon worsening law and order situation by resorting to unconstitutional and illegal tactics out of panic and worry”.
While mentioning Sharifs, Elahi emphatically stated that they do not believe in democracy and peace at all. “They have always preferred path of violence because of their dictatorial attitude. In 1988 Ch Shujaat Hussain and late Muhammad Khan Junejo stopped Nawaz Sharif from resorting to arrests and torture on arrival of Benazir Bhutto and because of this everything went alright whereas it was the democratic and peaceful attitude of our government that not a glass was broken during such massive lawyers movement,” Elahi added.
Earlier, Elahi visited the residence of Yousaf Baig Mirza and expressed condolences to him over demise of his sister and offered Fateha for the departed soul.
