LAHORE: The citizens of Lahore marked the death anniversary of Hazrat Ali (AS) with religious zeal and fervour. The processions regarding Youm-e-Ali (AS) ended peacefully amid tight security on Sunday.
Tight security arrangements were made on the day, with thousands of security personnel deployed on the procession route and entry points, whereas, volunteers assisted the security officials. Muslims across the world mark Youm-e-Ali (AS), the day of martyrdom of fourth caliph of Islam Hazrat Ali (AS) every year on the 21st of the holy month of Ramazan.
The main Tazia procession was taken out from Mubarak Haveli, Mochi Gate on Sunday morning and culminated at Karbala Gamay Shah in the evening before Iftar after passing though its traditional route Bazaar Hakiman, Paniwala Talab, Rang Mehal, and Bhatti Chowk.
Besides this main procession, several small processions were taken out from different parts of the city, including Imamia Colony, Raiwind, Thokar Niaz Baig, Mughalpura, Dharampura, Shadman, Gulshan Ravi, Chungi Amar Sadhu, Township, and Jafferia Colony. Before these processions, while addressing the processions and majalis, clerics threw light on the life of Hazrat Ali (AS) and his sacrifice for the sake of Islam. They also shed light on the philosophy of martyrdom.
The government and the management of the processions and imambargahs had made strict security arrangements on the occasion. The imambargahs’ management also deputed their own security men to assist the policemen to spot suspicious persons.
The parking lots for all the majalis and processions were set up at a safer distance.
Whereas CCTV cameras, metal detectors, and walkthrough gates were also used to scan the people, entering the procession routes. Mourners were allowed to enter in processions and majalis after passing through the three stages of security. No bystanders, both on the streets and the roofs, were allowed to stand while snipers took positions on different buildings in order to counter any terrorist activity.
Meanwhile, control rooms were also set up by the city police and the law enforcement agencies to ensure the security and safety of the mourners. Bomb Disposal Squad, Rescue-1122, and other rescue teams remained on high alert till the end of the processions.
