Govt making serious efforts to curb electricity crisis: CM

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the government is making serious efforts to resolve the energy crisis and power projects are being executed expeditiously. He said that short, medium, and long term planning has been made to overcome the shortage of electricity. He said that energy is essential for economic, trade, and industrial activities, therefore all-out resources are being utilised to resolve the problem of load shedding. He said that solid measures are also being taken for providing modern parking facilities to the citizens. 
He was addressing two separate video link conferences that reviewed the progress of the solar project at Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park, Bahawalpur and the performance of Lahore Parking Company. The chief minister said that the Punjab government has set up a solar park at Bahawalpur and has also taken a lead over others by establishing a solar project at this park at the government level. He said that initially 100 megawatts of electricity would be generated from the solar project while more solar projects would be set up under a phased programme, which would produce 1,000 megawatts of electricity. 
Addressing a meeting regarding the provision of modern parking facilities to the citizens, the chief minister directed the Lahore Parking Company to provide parking facilities to the people on priority basis. He warned that no further delay would be tolerated in this regard. He said that the parking facilities would improve the flow of traffic. Shahbaz directed the Lahore Parking Company to play an active role in this regard. Former MPA Hafiz Muhammad Nauman, Energy additional chief secretary, Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park chief executive officer, Punjab Information Technology Board chairman and Lahore Parking Company chief executive officer were also present in the video conferences held at the Civil Secretariat. 
Meanwhile, Shahbaz has taken notice of kidnapping for ransom and murder of an 8-year-old boy at Walton Road in the Factory Area Police Station, and has sought a report from the CCPO. The chief minister directed that the culprits involved in the murder of the child should be immediately arrested. He also assured that justice would be provided to the aggrieved family.
Moreover, the Punjab CM has taken notice of the news regarding the recovery of more than 80 persons from a private jail of an influential person in Kot Laddah, Gujranwala, and has sought a report. He directed to register a case against the person operating the private jail and said that he should immediately be arrested. He also directed the commissioner and district coordination officer to ensure proper care, as well as provision of the financial assistance to the people recovered from the private jail. 
On the other hand, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Sunday met the Punjab CM and discussed various issues, including planned protest drives of Tahirul Qadri and PTI Chief Imran Khan. The meeting took place in Raiwind where the two dignitaries discussed in detail, several issues including the progress on operation ‘Zarb-e-Azb’, planned long march of Imran Khan-led PTI, and Tahirul Qadri’s ‘revolution’. They also deliberated upon the current political scenario of the country. Earlier, both the dignitaries had a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif wherein they reviewed the law and order situation of the country and the political situation.
