LAHORE: The generators rates are sky rocketing after raise in temperature and load shedding. To meet the customers’ demand in coming months, the traders are importing generators in bulk quantity from China.
After the recent unscheduled load shedding and hot weather the generators’ sale has been increased in the wholesale markets and super stores in the provincial metropolitan. The local traders are importing the generators from China, which are available at the affordable prices, while Korean and Japanese generators are also available whose demand due to high prices, is relatively much lower.
Brandreth Road, which is a major wholesale market the generators and their accessories are available for sale. It was revealed during a markets survey that about 99 percent generators are being imported from China.
There are also some local brands available in markets but according to informed sources, the local manufacturers too are importing some’ parts from China and later they are assembling the generators in factories.
These local brands are not durable and reliable because local manufactures are only minting the money and they are not using modern technology.
The popular brands which are available in the market, include Loncin, Honda, JD, Swan etc.
The average prices of domestic generators in markets areof 1 Kv at price Rs. 20,000, 3 Kv Rs 39000, 3.5 Kv Rs 44000, 5 Kv Rs 72,000 and 6 Kv Rs 750,000.
The accessories like gas-kit and batteries, are also included in these prices, while over switch is available at Rs 1500 and automatic switch (ATS) is available at Rs 8000 to Rs 15000. It is also noted that most of the consumers who are buying the generators, are using gas instead of petrol or diesel.
Sheikh Mubashir Ashraf, sale agent of a popular Chinese made generator, said that prices of generators are depend on demand and supply, if the sale will rise, definitely prices would go high. In recent days the prices are controlled because there is less load shedding and lower temperature. He said the political situation also affects the prices.
Last year, after May elections, the generators sale had stopped because the government had taken affective steps to control the massive load shedding and due to which the whole sellers could not meet their targets and still they are disposing off the last years stock. ‘’ If government will not control the load shedding, the generators sale can once again come down in the coming days’’ he added.
To a query Mubashir said that Lahore market is covering the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa provinces, while Karachi is supplying the generators to interior Sindh and Balochistan.
