Model Town tribunal seeks data of 10 more cellphones

LAHORE: The one-man inquiry tribunal headed by Justice Ali Baqir Najfi of the Lahore High Court holding inquiry into Model Town incident has sought data pertaining to 10 more cellular phone numbers given by the Join Investigation Team (JIT). The judge issued notices to three cellular companies to submit data of phone calls made by the chief minister, former law minister Rana Sanaullah, former secretary to chief minister Dr Tauqir Shah and 15 others on June 17 by July 21. During the course of hearing on Friday, JIT member Saiful Murtaza submitted a report containing 10 more cell phone numbers used by top officials. On query about performance of the JIT, Saif said that it was doing investigation regularly from different aspects. Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Deputy Director Asad Ali Khan also submitted an interim report relating to analysis of 17 cell phone numbers used during the June 17 police operation in Model Town. He sought more time to submit the final report. On the request of a senior official, the tribunal also recorded the statements of police officials injured during the operation. The judge also directed the police to produce all senior officials, who were present on the place of occurrence, to appear in the court and record their statements.
