LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab President Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo said that the provincial government should accept the legitimate demands of the nurses immediately.
Wattoo in a statement issued here on Sunday also suggested the government that it should also not put nurses in discomfort and force them out of hospitals. He said that government’s apathy coupled with maltreatment of the protesting nurses by the police had compelled them to take extreme steps, like staging a sit-in on The Mall. He put a question before Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif asking as who was responsible for the acute sufferings of the patients in the hospitals during the protest, and also for those who lost their lives due to the lack of medical care.
Shahbaz Sharif owes an explanation to their families, he observed, adding that the chief minister did not get tired of boasting his good governance adding the gruesome incident of rape in Muzaffargarh had blown on his face and the administration of the province alike, which he was heading. He criticised in the strongest terms the handing over of a cheque bearing half a million rupees to the family of the rape victims under the full glare of the media that was indeed like an insult to injury.
