LAHORE: A four-year-old girl was burnt to death when a fire broke out in a house at Moon Market Gulshan Ravi police limits on Thursday.
According to an officer of Rescue 1122, the victim was sleeping in a room when her elder sister namely Maryam, 4, tried to light a stove lying near bed which caught suddenly fire due to gas leakage. As a result, blaze and smoke engulfed the entire basement within a few minutes. The deceased was identified as Bushra, daughter of Israr Ahmad, who was a resident in a rented basement of the house number-294-A block near Moon market Gulshan Ravi. A number of locals gathered at the spot when they sighted a smoke and informed the rescue teams and local police about the incident.
Fire-fighters reached the spot and started rescue operation and controlled the fire after half an hour. The deceased’s mother named Razia Bibi also reached her home as she was at work when the incident occurred. Razia bibi shouted when she did not see her daughter, Bushra. Rescue officials again started search operation inside the basement and they found the body of minor Bushra lying on bed. Victim’s mother told police that her husband worked as labour in Faisalabad. Later, the police handed over the body to her family after fulfilling legal procedure.
Separately, a 14-year-old boy was crushed to death by a speeding bus in Shahdra police area.
The deceased was identified as Mohsin, resident of Shahdra area. Police said the victim was on his way on a bike when a speeding bus hit him near Shahdra hospital. The driver of the bus managed to escape from the scene leaving behind his vehicle. The injured was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. When informed about the death of the youngster, a number of locals of his family members and relatives staged a protest and blocked main GT Road for several hours. The protesters chanted slogans against police, government and other people concerned and demanded immediate arrest of the main accused. The police officers reached the spot and assured them facilitating their demands. Police registered a case against bus driver on complaint of the deceased’s father, Iftikhar. Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
