Energy crisis will soon be a thing of the past, says Shahbaz

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government led by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has initiated work on various energy projects to remove darkness from the country and the day is not far away when the nation will get rid of electricity outages. According to a handout, the chief minister expressed these views while talking to assembly members, PML-N office-bearers and workers from different districts who called on him on Tuesday. He said that those, who were opposing the projects of provision of relief to the masses and were hindering the process of progress, should be well aware that the journey of public service would go on and that the PML-N government would steer the country out of the quagmire of problems it is presently in and would also transform the country into a welfare state.The chief minister said that the PML-N government and its leadership would honour every promise made with the people and would also come up to their expectations. He said that instead of redressing the grievances of the people, former rulers indulged in loot, corruption and nepotism. He said that energy crisis deteriorated and economy, agriculture and industrial sectors suffered heavy losses because of worst negligence and poor policies of the previous government. He said that the federal government was working on several energy projects while the Punjab government was also implementing a massive programme of power generation. He said that foundation stone of the first solar power park had been laid in Bahawalpur wherefrom 1,000 megawatts of electricity would be produced. He said that in the first phase, production of 100 MW of electricity would start in December. Similarly, he said, work on two coal-fired power projects with total generation capacity of 1,320 MW of electricity in Sahiwal would start this month. He said that overcoming energy crisis was essential in order to control poverty and unemployment, promote trade and economic activities, strengthen industrial sector and put the national economy on sound foundations. He said that keeping in view the gravity of the issue, the PML-N government was working round the clock to resolve energy crisis. Chief Minister Shahbaz said that service to the people was pivot of the politics of the PML-N and that it was making its best efforts for the last six years to steer the country to the path of development and prosperity.
