LAHORE: The Independence Day will be celebrated in Lahore like other parts of country with zeal and fervour today (Thursday).
Lahorites are all set to celebrate the day with their traditional enthusiasm to pay respect to the beloved country and to renew their pledge to protect its independence, sovereignty, and integrity at all costs.
A large number of ceremonies, including flag-hoisting functions, awareness walks and seminars will be held across the city to mark the day.
Special prayers will be offered in mosques for the prosperity, integrity and solidarity of the country, unity of the Muslims and for success of the long-drawn struggle against terrorism.
Government and non-government organisations have planned a number of events to celebrate the day in a befitting manner and pay homage to those, who laid down their lives to create an independent motherland for the coming generations.
The main ceremony will be the change of the guards at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal whereas flag-hoisting ceremonies will be held at Punjab Assembly, Civil Secretariat, Wapda House, Town Hall, Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Lahore High Court, all government offices and public and private educational institutions.
Important buildings including Lahore Railway Station, Punjab Assembly and Wapda House, have been decorated with flags and illuminations.
Meanwhile, citizens have decorated their houses, shops and bazaars with national flags and buntings whereas main city roads including The Mall, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Canal Bank Road and Gulberg’ Main Boulevard have also been decorated with flags, banners and illuminations.
The Punjab government is also celebrating the day in a special manner this year and in this regard, the Parks and Horticulture Authority, Punjab Arts Council and City District Government of Lahore have organised national songs concert and grand fireworks at Racecourse (Jillani) Park at midnight.
