LAHORE: At least six people were killed in different incidents across the city on Sunday.
A man was also shot dead while resisting a robbery bid in Iqbal Town police area.
In the first incident, a mobile phone trader was shot dead during a mugging attempt. The man was on his way back home when two unknown bike riders snatched his cell phone and other valuables on gunpoint near his house.
In an attempt to overpower the robbers, they fired at the man and escaped from the scene. The injured was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased was identified as Malik Farhan Tariq, 26, resident of Nazam Block Iqbal Town. He ran his business at Hall Road. Police handed over the body to his heirs after fulfilling the legal formalities.
In another incident, two young cousins died when their speeding bike collided with an electric pole in Johar Town.
According to Rescue 1122, two men identified as Waris, 22, and Amanat, 23, were on their way when their speeding bike rammed into an electric pole near Hakim Chowk. Resultantly, both of them sustained fatal injuries. The injured persons were taken to a nearby hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. Police handed over the bodies to the heirs.
Similarly, a 40-year-old man was killed by a speeding car near Data Darbar.
The man was crossing over a road near data Darbar when an unknown car hit him; as a result he received serious injuries. The car driver escaped from the scene.
The injured man was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police shifted the body to morgue. The identity of the man could not be ascertained.
Separately, a 30-year-old man was found dead in the limits of Harbanspura Police Station area.
Some passers-by spotted a man lying unconscious in Harbanspura area and informed the police. The man was taken to a local hospital where he expired. Police suspected that some poisonous substance had claimed his life. Meanwhile, Naulakha police recovered the body of a 60-year-old man near Railway Station. They claimed that the old man, yet to be identified, was a drug addict who died of cold weather. Bodies were shifted to mortuary.
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old youth was found dead in an empty plot in Nawab Town police area.
Police claimed that the youth died of hypothermia as he was observing spiritual solitude under the open sky. Police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy.
Separately, three children received minor burns while household items worth thousands of rupees were reduced to ashes when a fire broke out in a house in Factory Area.
Fire erupted due to an electric short circuit in the house. The injured children were taken to a local hospital where their condition was said to be out of danger. When informed, the fire-fighters rushed to the scene and doused the fire after hectic efforts.
