LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) have agreed that their struggle (march) will be democratic, under the constitution and non-violent.
They warned the government would be held responsible for any kind of violence during this struggle. The four-point agreement came during a meeting of PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Jehangir Tareen with PAT chief Tahirul Qadri at the Minhajul Quran Secretariat where they discussed the current situation of the country. After the meeting, Qureshi told the media that they have demanded the government release all the workers of the PTI and PAT and remove hurdles and containers from across Punjab.
“It is an un democratic move to block the roads. If the government respects the law then it should obey the law and remove all barriers,” he demanded. He said the PTI and PAT have agreed on four points that all the struggles are democratic. “All the struggle is under the constitution of Pakistan. The struggle will be non-violent. If any type of violence happens then the government will be responsible.” Qureshi said the democratic government was negating the spirit of democracy by resorting to undemocratic steps to stop the PTI Azadi March. He said roads have been blocked everywhere. “It does not happen in a democracy.”
He urged human rights activists to take notice of restrictions put in place by the Punjab government against PTI’s march. He said the objective of PTI’s democratic movement was establishment of democracy in Pakistan in letter and spirit. “We are a peaceful people and our movement will be based on non-violence,” he added. Qureshi said those who are accusing the PTI of reading from a script should make public the name of its scriptwriter. “We have chosen to go back to the people after being fed up with the non-serious attitude of the government (towards real issues),” he said.
While noting that said some people are of the view that the PTI was taking out a long march to secure a safe exit for former military dictator Pervez Musharraf, Qureshi said,. “Let me tell them that we have nothing to do with Pervez Musharraf.” He said the PTI must not be counted on any side when it comes to Musharraf issue. Speaking on the occasion, PAT leader Raheeq Abbasi said a detailed discussion was held with the PTI leadership on Azadi March and Qadri’s “Revolution March”.
