Court seeks report on arrest of Imran, Qadri loyalists

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday directed the Punjab government to ensure smooth supply of petroleum products to all filling stations and also directed it to furnish details about arrest and detention of political workers and leaders belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT). Justice Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah also issued a show cause notice to Lahore District Coordination Officer (DCO) Captain (r) Muhammad Usman for not appearing before the court despite repeated notices. The court issued these directives on a petition filed by PTI Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry and others against arrest of party workers, shortage of fuel and closure of roads. The counsel for the petitioners submitted that the government wanted to foil the PTI’s Azadi March and for this purpose, roads had been blocked and its workers were being detained. He said that even petrol pumps had been closed across the province to curb the free movement of citizens, forcing the people to stay at home. He requested the court to direct the government to open all of the closed roads, release arrested party workers and let filling pumps start sale of petroleum products.
