LAHORE: In a jibe at the federal and Punjab governments, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto on Sunday lamented that country’s resources were being wasted on ‘senseless’ projects, like colourful bus schemes which were of no help to the poor. “They are only appeasing their friends with useless projects like Sasti Roti and Danish School,” he said in his address to a mass wedding ceremony. Bilawal said instead of introducing bus schemes, the resources should have been channelled towards projects which could help overcome the problem of unemployment in the country. He regretted that every other day a mega project is inaugurated and credit is claimed even for those projects that were initiated under his party’s government. “The PML-N is renaming the projects initiated by the PPP and re-launching them with its own name.” Terming food, clothing, shelter, health and education as fundamental human necessities, the PPP chairman said it was never taken into account as to how sharply the prices of commodities and the rate of unemployment have gone up over the time. He said PML-N government has imposed billions of rupees taxes on the people without even bothering to obtain parliament’s approval. He said the ‘Kissan Package’ introduced by the incumbent government has sparked widespread protests. “There was a time prior to our government when the country used to import wheat. We turned the situation around to a point where we could begin to export the surplus wheat,” he said, regretting that today again the wheat is being imported from Ukraine.
