LAHORE: Law Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has said that some elements are challenging the writ of the government by creating chaos and anarchy under a conspiracy. He said that the people have given mandate to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which will be safeguarded by the people of Pakistan and the constitution. He said that law-enforcement agencies would not be deterred by threats of Dr Tahirul Qadri nor would he be allowed to violate law or talk of “hanging” policemen.
He said that those, who were gathering proclaimed offenders to topple the government and ordering their workers to fix nails on their batons and collect weapons, would not be allowed to violate the law and would be dealt with an iron fist.
According to a handout, Mashhood expressed these views while addressing a press conference at the committee room of National Hockey Stadium on Thursday. Provincial Minister for Environment and Police Reforms Colonel (r) Shuja Khanzada was also present on the occasion.
Rana Mashhood Ahmed said that Dr Tahirul Qadri and Imran Khan wanted pushing the people into a blind alley and warned them that they would know the result of illegal activities.
He said that the people, who do not abide by the law and constitution, want to create disruption and hooliganism but that law would take its course against them. He said that those using indecent language in their provocative speeches would not be tolerated. He said that Imran Khan and Dr Qadri would be responsible for any loss caused to democratic system. He said that describing a democratic government a monarchy was an insult to the people of the country. He said that misunderstanding of Chaudhry Shujaat would soon be removed and that he (Shujaat) had not learned any lesson from defeat in the general elections.
Rana Mashhood said that Shujaat’s condition was pitiable and that he (Shujaat) likes the protection of a dictator and not democracy. He said that the Chaudhry brothers were trying to come into power with the help of a person, who does not have any political importance. He said that the Chaudhry brothers should forget martial law or becoming a part of it. To a question, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said that a citizen named Zulfiqar had submitted an application to register a case against Dr Tahirul Qadri for delivering rebellious speeches and that a case has been registered against him at Lower Mall Police Station.
To another question, Rana Mashhood Ahmed said that Dr Tahirul Qadri has not been immediately arrested, as the government does not want to lose patience. He said that we were waiting for final report of the joint investigation team and judicial commission regarding the Model Town incident of June 17 after which everything would become clear before the nation.
