LAHORE: Scattered rain across the city pulled down the mercury on Thursday, besides resulting in massive traffic jams on several roads and junctions.
Moreover, water also accumulated in the low-lying areas, mainly due to the negligence of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA).
According to the Met Office, the city observed 4mm rain whereas the minimum temperature remained 9 degree Celsius. Meanwhile, a westerly trough is affecting the upper and central parts of the country and is likely to move eastward during the next 24 hours. Widespread rain and snowfall over the hills is also expected in Islamabad, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions), upper KP (Malakand, Hazara divisions), Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Rain is also expected at isolated places in Peshawar, Sargodha and Faisalabad divisions.
The rain and cool breeze throughout the day also brought a new cold wave in the city. The people, especially youth, rushed towards markets, food stalls and restaurants to enjoy the rainy weather, which also added to the traffic woes.
Rainwater was also accumulated on several roads, as several WASA officials remained absent on the day. Meanwhile, people also crowded dry fruit shops, samosa shops and fast-food restaurants.
