Indiscriminate action being taken against profiteers, hoarders: CM

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said indiscriminate action is being taken against profiteers and hoarders, and that no one will be allowed to exploit the people in the name of profit.
Talking to a delegation of assembly members and office-bearers of PML-N, which called on him at Raiwind, the CM said that the Pakistan Muslim League-N government was vigorously pursuing the agenda of public service and comprehensive measures have been taken for the welfare of the masses during the last one year. 
He said that a historical Ramazan Package has been announced for the provision of relief to the people of the province and a subsidy of Rs 5 billion has been given only on the provision of flour to the people at cheaper rates in Ramazan bazaars and open markets during the holy month of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak. 
The chief minister said that price control committees are working actively to save the people from the exploitation of profiteers and hoarders. He said that due to the timely steps of the Punjab government and strict monitoring, quality essential items, fruits and vegetables are available to the people at cheaper rates in abundance in Ramazan bazaars. He said that purchase of daily use items, fruits and vegetables by the people in a large number in Ramazan bazaars reflects the confidence of the masses in the Ramazan Package of the Punjab government.
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that supply of quality edible items in abundance has been ensured in Ramazan bazaars so that maximum people could benefit from it. He said that a comprehensive mechanism has been evolved for supplying edible items at cheaper rates in abundance in Ramazan bazaars. He said that provincial ministers, elected representatives and administrative officers are visiting Ramazan bazaars to personally monitor the supply of quality edibles being provided under Ramazan Package. He said that more than 340 Ramazan bazaars have been set up for the facility of the people throughout the province. 
He said that he was personally monitoring the Ramazan Package and the facilities being provided in Ramazan bazaars. He said that the quality and prices of essential items are being implemented strictly during Ramazan-ul-Mubarak. He said that no compromise would be made on the quality and prices of essential items and no negligence in providing relief to the people will be tolerated. The chief minister said that the government would not allow anyone to sell items at higher rates during Ramazan. 
He said that a system of monitoring and information with regard to Ramazan Bazaars has been evolved. He said that the people would not be let at the mercy of profiteers. Shahbaz Sharif said that agri fair price shops are providing fruits and vegetables to the people at cheaper rates. He stressed upon Assembly Members to conduct maximum visits to Ramazan bazaars for monitoring the facilities being provided to the people so that the fruits of Ramazan Package could be ensured to the people. He said that no effort should be spared for ensuring provision of edible items in abundance in Ramazan bazaars. He directed that in case of any complaint, immediate steps should be taken for its redressal and action be taken against the persons responsible.
Meanwhile, Shahbaz Sharif strongly condemned the murder of Mir Abdul Jabbar Imrani, Muslim League-N leader from Qallat. In a condolence message, the chief minister prayed that may Allah Almighty rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and strength to the members of the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss with fortitude.
Shahbaz also took notice of the incident of alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old housemaid in Garden Town Lahore and sought a report from the Capital City Police Officer. The chief minister directed that legal action should be taken for apprehending the culprits involved in the incident and justice be ensured to the affected family.
