Woes of pensioners refuse to go away

LAHORE: A pensioner of Pakistan Railways was killed in a stampede in front of a bank in Raiwind city police precincts on Friday. The police said that Maqsood Ahmed, 65, queued up outside National Bank of Pakistan’s Raiwind Branch from 9am to 11am when the elderly people began jostling for drawing the pension before noon closure as a result of which a stampede broke out.  Maqsood fell on the ground and was trampled underfoot as frenzied crowd were stampeded into entering the bank haphazardly.
Killed: An unidentified man was killed and another was injured when a speeding truck hit a bike in Kahna area on Ferozepur Road. The police said that the men were on their way when the truck hit their bike, killing one of the bikers while injuring his pillion. The truck drive sped away. Meanwhile, the body of an unidentified man appearing to be in his thirties was found in Bhaati Gate police precincts. The police said that a passer-by informed the policy about the body lying inside Bhaati Gate. The bodies were sent for autopsies.
