NA speaker stresses pre-marriage test to avoid thalassaemia


LAHORE: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has stressed a legislation to bound male and female for blood test before marriage so that a healthy society could be established. He said this while speaking at a ceremony during his visit at Sundas Foundation, an NGO, on Saturday. He said that around 1.8 million people in the country had been suffering from blood diseases, which needed to be handled on emergent basis. He was of his views that the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) should also be consulted regarding the pre-marriage legislation. He urged the participants to prepare a draft for the pre-marriage legislation so that it could be approved in the National Assembly. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq appreciated the efforts of the Sundas Foundation under its chairman a renowned columnist Muno Bhai. The NA Speaker during his Visit of Sundas Foundation also enquired after different child patients of thalassaemia and cancer and gave them gifts. President of the Sundas Foundation speaking on the occasion said that Sundas Foundation had been running eight centres in big cities to control blood diseases and had a planning to establish such centres in every city of the country. President LCCI Engineer Sohail Lashari, Chairman Sundas Foundation Muno Bhai, senior journalist Sohail Warriach and others were also present on the occasion.
