LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Chaudhry Muhammad Shafique, while assuring his all-out support to the Citizen Police Business Liaison Committee (CPBLC), has decided to conduct monthly meetings of the committee at the CCPO Office to make it more effective and result-oriented.
The CCPO was talking to CPBLC Chairman Engineer Sohail Lashari, who was leading a six-member delegation of the committee, which included Vice Chairman Muhammad Amjad Chaudhry, General Secretary Nasrullah Mughal, Project Director Haji Muhammad Akram and other members.
DIG (Investigation) Zulfiqar Hameed, DIG (Operations) Rana Abdul Jabbar, SSP (Admin) Rana Shahzad Akmal and SSP (Internal Accountability Division) Sohail Sukhera were also present in the meeting, which lasted for about two hours.
Chaudhry Shafique also announced to appoint SSP Sohail Sukhera as the focal person to liaise with CPBLC Chairman Engineer Sohail Lashari.
While expressing his disappointment over the performance of the previous committee, the CCPO expressed the optimism that the new committee under the chairmanship of Sohail Lashari would work with a new energy and enthusiasm. He said that the police had decided to refer all the business-related issues to the CPBLC for their settlement.
Chaudhry Shafique said that peace was a prerequisite to the economic well-being of the country; therefore, all efforts were being made to purge society of anti-social elements.
He said that the commitments made with the CPBLC would be fulfilled at every cost and the Lahore police would prove it, despite the fact that it had meagre resources.
Giving a detailed briefing on the situation of law and order in the city through a presentation by Inspector Azeemullah, DIG (Operations) Rana Abdul Jabbar said that there was no organised gang of extortionists in the city, and most of extortion cases turned out to be fake, when a thorough investigation was carried out.
Speaking on the occasion, Sohail Lashari, who is also the LCCI president, said that the Citizen Police Business Liaison Committee would be made to work on the pattern of the Karachi CPLC, and it would be ensured that its benefits reached the business community in real terms.
He said that the members of the committee had been selected very carefully to ensure true representation of the business community.
Sohail Lashari suggested to the CCPO to establish CPBLC offices at the divisional level to improve its efficiency and performance.
He said that the collaboration between the business community and the police would not only help purge society of crimes and criminals but it would also send a good message that, on national issues, public and private sectors were on the same page.
At the end of the meeting, the CCPO presented a souvenir to Engineer Sohail Lashari.
