PPP hints at talks with PTI over re-election

LAHORE: Former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday said that the government has no threats from protests but it can only collapse due to its own mistakes. Talking to media, Gilani said that the PML-N government seems panic-stricken by Imran Khan’s long march. “Protests, long-march or sit-ins cannot derail democracy neither can it remove the government but the current government could only collapse by its own mistakes”, Gilani said. Gilani was of the view that the government has made the situation complicated unnecessarily. He said that the PML-N government seems panic stricken by the Model Town tragedy and the decision to divert Qadri’s plane were unnecessary steps taken by the PML-N government. He advised the government to keep doors open for negotiations instead of panic. Gilani said that his government did not use article-245 during the lawyer’s long march and had resorted the judiciary without any conflict with the people. Gilani has said that talks could be held with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on the issue of re-election adding that protests and long march is the people’s right and a part of democracy. Gilani also advised Imran Khan to hold a peaceful protest and to negotiate with the government for a suitable solution.
