LAHORE: While immediately acting upon the letter written by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to the provincial chief ministers asking them to pass on the benefit of reduction in the prices of petroleum products to the common man, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the administration and departments concerned to take effective measures to bring down transport fares and prices of essential items.
He said that Pakistan Muslim League-N government is determined to provide maximum relief to the masses and it would be ensured that benefits of stability in the value of rupee and reduction in petroleum prices should reach the common man.
The Chief Minister said that Punjab government is already implementing a comprehensive programme for raising the living standard of the people and sincere efforts are being made for the welfare of low-income people.
He directed concerned departments and administrations to harmonize transport fares and prices of essential articles with the recent decrease in petroleum prices so as to provide relief to the masses.
He directed that price control committees set up at Tehsil, town and district levels be fully mobilized while teams of special magistrates should be constituted for ensuring sale of daily use items at the fixed rate. Shahbaz Sharif said that the interest of people would be fully protected and no one would be allowed to exploit the citizens. He said that law would immediately come into action against the elements involved in profiteering.
The Chief Minister directed concerned departments to take solid measures for reducing transport fares and prices of essential items and submit him a reports.
He said that provision of quality daily use items to the masses would be ensured and the role of elected representatives as well as administration is of vital importance for this purpose.
He said that people have high expectations from PML-N government and it will be fulfilled at any cost. He said that the elements involved in overcharging deserve no leniency and immediate action should be taken against them. He said that economic situation is improving due to solid measures taken by PML-N government.
He said that every step of the government is directed towards betterment of the people. He said that those showing good performance in the entire process of price control mechanism would be encouraged.
Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of a fire at Century Tower near Kalma Chowk and sought a report from administration. He also ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Immediately after receiving information about the fire at Century Tower, the Chief Minister directed district administration and Rescue-1122 to control the fire and rescue the entrapped people.
The Chief Minister also sent his helicopter for relief activities.
He further directed concerned departments and administration to evolve a comprehensive strategy for controlling the incidents of fire at plazas and buildintgs and safety measures should be adopted for this purpose.
